Competitive

Terpander Mannenkoor Belgium

Men's Choir Terpander was founded in 2016 by then conductor of the Leuven University Choir, Koen Vits, and also consisted mainly of (former) singers of that choir at the time. The aim was to give the wonderful literature for male choir a stage opportunity and to address the glaring shortage of male choirs in our country.
Right from the start, the decision was made to rehearse roughly fortnightly, and to perform two major projects a year, possibly padded with smaller side projects. The members are expected to self-study, so that we can work on consonance and finishing as soon as possible.
Today, Men's Choir Terpander consists of about 20 members. The choir rehearses every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month in the Leuven St Michael's Church and still performs two major concerts a year.

Jong Vocaal Groningen was founded in 1996 by Nanny ter Wiel and has been conducted by Merlijn Wackers since 2016. The choir has a broad repertoire, from Renaissance music to contemporary works, with a slight emphasis on compositions from Scandinavian and Baltic countries. In recent years, several world premieres have been performed by composers such as Douwe Eisenga, Ellen Dijkhuizen and Chris Fictoor. Besides thematic programmes, such as recent compositions on texts by Shakespeare, the choir has also performed larger works. These included collaborations with ensembles such as The Northern Consort, Chamber Orchestra of the North and saxophone quartet SAKS. In 2022, for instance, the opera ‘Dido and Aeneas’, directed by Wendy Viel, was performed at the festivals CityProms and Hungry Wolf. Jong Vocaal Groningen has participated in national and international competitions. It won first prize several times at the choir festival on Schiermonnikoog and earned the designation ‘NKF top choir ’ in the finals of the Dutch Choir Festival in 2017.

The Brussels Chamber Choir was founded in 2007 by conductor Helen Cassano and a group fellow of students of the Royal Conservatoire of Music in Brussels. The choir specialises in the a cappella repertoire, and performs its own inventive programmes across Brussels, often premièring new or forgotten music. Major choral works are also often on the programme, such as Messiah, Carmina Burana, Charpentier’s Messe des Morts, Mozart’s Davidde Penitente, the Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat and both passions by Bach, conducted by top-notch conductors such as Paul Dombrecht, Philippe Pierlot, Paul Agnew and Sigiswald Kuijken. Together with the Belgian National Orchestra, the BCC performed Mahler's 2nd symphony, conducted by Hugh Wolff and The Planets by Holst conducted by Thomas Adès, both in BOZAR. Other musical partners have included the New Baroque Times orchestra, Ensemble Sarband and composers Eric Whitacre and Bob Chilcott. The choir’s album ‘Made in Belgium: New Belgian Choral Music’ (Etcetera, 2017) was warmly received by press and audience alike and received a 4-star rating from Diapason magazine in France.

The “Male voices of the Boys Choir Lucerne”, Switzerland is a vocal ensemble that evolved out of the junior members of the “Boys Choir”. All singers (age 15-25) originate from Lucerne (Switzerland) and its surrounding region. Their main objective is to present a wide variety of music styles at the highest level while retaining the enjoyment and the playful approach to music. Their vocal training includes individual voice coaching. The ensemble regularly and successfully participates in competitions, winning a number of prizes nationally (1st prize Swiss Choir Competition in 2024) and internationally (e.g. Neerpelt, Montreux, Provence) over the years. The most memorable event in 2023 was the invitation to perform at the European Festival of Youth Choirs in Basel (EJCF) and 2 Gold Medals at “European Choir Games” in Norköpping, Sweden. Their skillful and highly creative presentations have often been composed and arranged specifically for this ensemble. The “Male voices of the Boys Choir Lucerne” are conducted by Andreas Wiedmer.
